Enough is Enough

I was debating the current immigration issue with a colleague the other day and was asked, "how will the illegals becoming citizens affect you? It's not like they're going to take your job".

Well here's how it affects me. My wife and I recently had a baby. We are doing our best to keep him out of daycare while trying to a job for my wife a few hours a week. A cuple of weeks back she found fell upon a job with a local home builder, Cambridge Homes. The job was perfect as the hours were part-time in the evening and the weekend, where in both cases I'd be home to watch our baby.

The interview went great and in so many words she was told that she was a great fit for the position, except for one issue - she doesn't speak Espanola. The interviewer said she would have to check with her boss to see if the position HAD to be filled by a bi-legal candidate.

We never heard from them again. So there, that's how this issue affects me. I'm trying to raise my child, yet my wife is not qualified for a position because she ONLY speaks English. I am all for learning multiple languages, but not in order to get a job in your own country of birth.

Tell me this, how is it that someone can afford a three hundred thousand dollar home, yet they cannot speak English? Are they bringing that much cash from Mexico to the U.S. to buy a home? Doubtful. Instead, they come, work (very hard), save their money, and buy a home. Yet, they fail on one critical component - they don't learn the language. And for this laziness, we as a society reward them.

It makes me ill. My grandfather is an Italian immigrant. He made the long ship ride at the ripe age of 16 years old. He went through the LEGAL immigration process and received his papers. He then went on with an 8th grade education to not only learn the language, but work for GM, and raise a family of five. Though proud of his heritage and country, he did not come over here and fly the Italian flag. Nope. Rather, he flew the American flag high and proud in front of his house. He also engaged into the political landscape of America to understand its issues and debate its sides. He is one of the most knowledgeable people I know in terms of politics and yet he has no formal education. Instead, he respected America's Border, welcomed its Culture, and learned the Language. This is considered an old tale in today's immigration landscape.

Now, I have to watch Mexican flags being flown in the U.S. as well as protestors turning the American flag upside down in our own country. These are the same folks who seek legal citizenship after breaking a national law.

America has become a whore that is being used by many. We best wise up before this great nation reaches a point of no return, if it hasn't already.

I know not everybody fits the profile above; however, the majority as I've seen it are proud to act in this nature. I respect the ones who truly honor this country. For those who are using its great freedom and opportunity, be ashamed. Great men have built this Nation for the opportunity you piss on.

So yes, this issue does effect me, from a personal and patriotic standpoint.

Why Blog?

Why write a blog? Seems silly from the outside. I mean, essentially I am writing to myself to start. Who knows if anyone will ever read or even care about what I write. But something inside me draws a comparison of writing to that of working out. Not only does physical activity make you feel better, but it also releases stressors. Please note, I will never admit to being stressed, but something healthy is released during workouts. I feel the same about writing. As a human, without choice you act as a sponge 365 days per year, absorbing multiple things that touch your life on a daily basis. Many of these things have a one way ticket into your mind, but no avenue for return flight. I think writing is my return flight. I simply cannot gather any more information without expressing some opinions on various matters. Today will be my start.

My goal is to let it all out. I plan to touch on multiple areas of life, including: politics, sports, humanity, religion, and family to name a few. I hope what I write becomes interactive with other guests, but to start I just want to get it out.

I feel there is value with partaking in healthy debates or hearing other points of view. Hopefully this blog will accomplish that. But if nothing else, it will serve as my return ticket.
